I wish I could tell you that if you follow these steps, you’ll be more confident to face the world in no time.
However, I understand that when you’ve been through a lot of difficult situations (bullied, rejected, abused, etc.). It’s hard to start believing in yourself again.
Learning to love yourself takes time. And, you know what? That’s OK!
For now, let me share with you a few ways to help you in your journey towards loving yourself…
1. Forgive Yourself
I’ve made so many mistakes in my life. If I just keep on looking back and beating myself up over the things I “should” have said or I “should” have done, I won’t be able to move on.
We can’t turn back time. We can’t undo the past.. but we can find ways NOW to create a better future. And, it starts by forgiving oneself.
2. Know and Accept Yourself Unconditionally
I know it’s easier said than done. If you’ve been through so much pain, it’s hard to figure out your strengths and weaknesses.
Yet, it is essential to know the things that you can do well, to reflect on the areas that you need to work on, and to love yourself anyway despite the imperfections!
3. Develop Yourself
There should be a balance between self-acceptance and self-improvement. Now that we have a deeper knowledge of ourselves, it’s time to open new doors, grow, and reach our full potential.
4. Show Yourself Gratitude
Don’t forget to thank yourself! You’ve been through a lot of tough times, and you’ve survived the dark moments of your life. You did your best to keep going. And, you became STRONG, RESILIENT, and BEAUTIFUL!
Yes… that’s YOU… breathe… let the words sink in… pat yourself on the back and say Thank You!
5. Treat Yourself
Of course, you can do more than thank yourself. You can treat yourself to a fun weekend getaway, a mani-pedi, a new outfit, a nice restaurant. Treating yourself can get expensive, so remember to stay within your budget.
There are also a lot of totally free ways to treat yourself: listening to your favorite beat, walking at the park, watching the sunset. Be creative and find ways to nourish your mind, body, and soul.
