I imagined having a romantic sunset beach wedding in Florida. I thought of Las Vegas — Just the Two of Us package. I googled the best wedding ideas in New York. Finally, I found a web page that showed photos of couples getting married in New York Central Park. One particular image caught my attention — a bridge that gracefully swoops over a beautiful lake. I closed my eyes and pictured my groom kissing me on that bridge, and my heart skipped a beat.
Lesson 1: Create a realistic vision
The internet is full of wedding ideas. Do you want to wed in Hawaii, Las Vegas or the Bahamas? Do you have the resources to make it possible? Does your vision make you and your partner happy?
Abraham and I met 23 years ago. Young and clueless, we made mistakes. We broke each other’s heart and went our separate ways. A few years ago, we found each other again and rekindled the fire. Now, we are ready to face life together — to start a new beginning.
Lesson 2: Relish the moment
This is it! After all the challenges in your relationship, you are finally getting married. Look at your groom, listen to his words, feel his touch as he puts that ring on your finger. Your attention will get pulled in different directions, and you might miss the big moments. Forget about the minor details and focus.
Music was playing at the arcade. A tourist guide was talking on top of his voice. Just a few steps away, a newlywed couple was also having a photo shoot. Little kids were running up and down the stairs. Our photographer was moving around trying to get the best shot. In the midst of it all, my husband and I kept on dancing.
Lesson 3: Don’t fret when things are not perfect.
Some situations are beyond your control. Be flexible and have fun. Unexpected moments will make your wedding day memorable.
I may not have the perfect wedding. No ceremony musicians. No lavish reception. No horse-drawn carriage or limo. But, I have no regrets.
I dreamt of kissing my groom on the Bow Bridge, and it came true.
My eyes welled up with tears as I listened to his vows.
We danced at the Bethesda Terrace — like nobody was watching!
It was unforgettable.
I know there’s still a lot of challenges ahead of us and I’m praying God will give us strength and wisdom to continue our journey.
Have a great day everyone. Thank you so much for reading!

[…] We got married on a beautiful spring day at Central Park, NYC. Two months ago, we were planning to go to the big city to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary. It would be nice to visit the park, walk on the bow bridge, and just relive those beautiful moments of our wedding day. […]
